The best sandwiches in LA, in my humble opinion

Whether you’re headed to LA for the week or a long day trip, I thought I’d gather a list of my essential breakfast, lunch and dinner spots, plus other activities to keep yourself entertained while you’re here. There’s such an unimaginable amount of excellent food in this city that narrowing a select few spots down to share is always tricky. Still, I’ll do my very best to highlight the greatest hits and sum up the general vibe of each place for easy decision-making on your end. I hope you love each of these places as much as I do!

PB&J Bagel at Courage

IF YOU HAVE TIME FOR ONE BREAKFAST, GO TO…
  • Courage Bagels, regardless of where you live, you’ve likely heard whispers of this place, and I promise: it will not disappoint. If you arrive 5 minutes before they open, you’ll be one of the first—if not the first—to order and get in and out of there quickly. Alternatively, if you head over around noon on a weekday, you should experience a line with no more than 3 people in front of you. (I lived down the street for 5 years and managed to go a couple times a month without ever waiting in an hours-long line using both of these approaches, lol)

Sqirl

IF YOU HAVE TIME FOR A FEW, GO TO…
  • Sqirl, an iconic California establishment that you cannot miss. Get the sorrel pesto bowl and/or try an array of toasts

  • Saffy’s Coffee & Tea, a Mediterranean breakfast on a patio

  • Wake & Late, great breakfast burritos

  • Clark Street Bakery, specifically the Larchmont location: you can’t go wrong here. Cute street for walking and shopping around on afterwards

  • Fondry, more delightful baked goods

  • Bub & Grandma’s, love their latke hashbrown

  • Max & Helen’s, very cute spot with a delightfully fluffy-yet-crispy lemon zest pancake. I’d advise against a weekend visit (walk-ins only and and hours-long waitlist) but I’ve had luck waiting no more than 15 minutes for a table on weekday mornings
